It may soon get easier for the techies to reach their respective IT parks across the city. In the phase 1, the Chennai Metro Rail Limited shall connect the important IT parks lying along the Old Mahabalipuram Road with Manapakkam and the remaining parts of the city through metro stations. This will be covering a distance of 108.4 km covering about 104 stations lying in the 3 corridors. If things go on as per plans, it is likely that the construction works will begin in 2018. This will probably get ready in 10 years down the line.
With this idea of setting up stations nearby IT companies and parks, the government aims ta encouraging techies to make use of metro trains. So, the city traffic with 2 and 4 wheelers can considerably get reduced, says a metro rail official. It is likely that the metro service will get extended beyond Siruseri in the following phase.
This will have a 20km IT corridor stretch in the stretch of OMR and Rajiv Gandhi Salai that connects 22 elevated metro stations starting from Tidel Park to SIPCOT in Siruseri.
