Onion and tomato prices come down heavily

As the quantity of the tomatoes and onions arriving in Chennai Koyambedu wholesale vegetable market has increased considerably, their prices have come down appreciably – tomato is now sold at Rs. 13 per kg and onion is sold at Rs. 11 per kg.
As it has been raining quite substantially in Karnataka and Andhra, there has been an excellent harvest of tomatoes. Correspondingly, the quantity of tomatoes despatched to Chennai has also increased considerably. So, rural grown tomatoes are sold at Rs. 13 per kg and the hybrid type of tomatoes are sold at Rs. 22 per kg.
Further, onion dispatched from Lasalgaon, Maharashtra is sold at Rs. 22 per kg and onions arriving from Andhra are sold at Rs. 11 per kg.
