For almost 7 years since the beginning of construction of metro rail underground corridor, the commuters on Anna Salai have been combating the chaotic traffic. The activity along AG-DMS is likely to soon get connected with arterial road via underground metro stations. by March 2018, the metro rail stretch between Saidapet and AG-DMS covering 3.3km distance will get operational.

Speaking about this, one of the metro rail officials said trial runs along this stretch between AG-DMS and Saidapet will take place in December 2017, and by March 2018, it will get operational. In July this year, a trial run was conducted with a locomotive in the same route.

By the beginning of next year, the line between AG-DMS and Saidapet will get ready. The tunneling works along AG-DMS and May Day Park are on the go. On 18th October, one of the 2 tunnels covering May Day Park and AG-DMS got completed. And in November, the other tunnel will also get over. On opening the entire stretch, metro trains will decongest the chaotic traffic on Anna Salai.

Works in full swing
Construction works are taking place in full swing. Architectural and other system works along AG-DMS and Saidapet are also taking place. Installing tunnel ventilation, air-conditioning, heating, ventilation, signaling, automatic fare collection gate, platform screen doors, etc. are currently taking place.

The AG-DMS metro station will be present on DMS complex. This will be among the notable underground stations in the city. On either sides, crossovers will be present for facilitating train movement between tracks at times of emergencies. There are crossovers between every 4 stations, say metro rail officials.

Shelved for more than a year
As the Russian contractor abandoned the work half the way, works along the stretch in Anna Salai got stalled for more than one year.
