Opening up two-way traffic in Egmore eases commuters

As the traffic police have made a section of the Commissioner Office Road in Egmore 2-way to cope with the morning peak hours, bikers and all other commuters along the way seem to heave a sigh, as they are relieved out of traffic congestion.
Starting from the Udipi Home Junction lying along the end of Dr. Nair Bridge until S B Adityanar roundabout close to Ashok Hotel, the entire stretch is made 2-way for the time period between 9 am and 11 am. During the evening peak hours between 5 pm and 8 pm on weekdays, the stretch however will remain one-way. This is intended to reduce traffic along S B Adityanar roundabout along Poonamallee High Road.
Earlier, the stretch along Luz corners was made 2-way so as to benefit the commuters. On observing the decongestion caused by the move, now, the Egmore route is made 2–way too. Speaking about this, a traffic police officer said during morning peak hours, the 2-way traffic will be allowed. So far, things are working out well and commuters express positive feedbacks for the same. In fact, a few commuters have written in person stating that they are personally benefited, and there are a few who have posted on the official Facebook page in praise of the initiative.
A lot of commuters including parents who take their kids to schools were left with no choice than to opt for a circuitous route traveling through the Egmore railway station. They had to move through an extra kilometer for arriving at S B Adityanar roundabout. Because of parking vehicles along the roadside, the road opposite to the railway station is also fully congested, says a traffic police officer.
On a trial basis, this road is made 2-way during peak hours. In the evening hours, one-way traffic is important because there are many vehicles ply by the Poonamallee High Road. If it is not made one-way, the route will get overcrowded, said another traffic police official.
