Why it is easy to protect computer against the cyber attacks now?

Posted on: 23/Jan/2018 10:29:53 AM
This is digital age and people all over the world use computers, laptops, tablets, mobile phones etc in their daily lives. It is well known that any cyber attack or hacking would lead to the destruction of their computer, mobiles etc and would make it unfit for further use. Hence anti-virus software plays an important role in protection the computers from any cyber attack.

Now the news that has come out is a small piece of hardware would be making its presence felt in protecting our computers etc. Indian institute of Technology Madras or IIT M is a premier educational institute and this institute produces huge number of students every year. Researchers in this prestigious educational institute IIT M have worked day in and day out and this has resulted in designing a microprocessor chip by them. The computers, mobile phones etc would be very safe from now on because of this small microprocessor chip and it could also be used to replace anti-virus software.

It must be noted that malicious software such as Wannacry etc create huge problem for computers. Now these IIT students from Madras have designed a microprocessor chip called as ‘Shakthi T’ and this microchip has got security feature in it and it can detect this Wannacry. This microprocessor chip could prevent unauthorised access to the memory of a system. Finally data could be saved and that is superb news.

Department of computer science and engineering in IITM must feel happy and proud that its research students have now done superbly in designing a prototype of ‘Shakthi T’ as one of the variants of Shakthi.

According to professor Kamakoti, tagged instruction architecture is the basis behind the working of the new small microprocessor chip. He also spoke about how the software in the form of instructions would control the manner the system responds to any commands.

Professor Kamakoti also spoke about how malware programme is usually in the form of a link or an attachment in an email. He stressed on the fact that user when using the system unknowingly clicks this malware programme then his/her system gets corrupted due to an unauthorised access to memory locations in the system by the running of the malware programme. In the end the data gets encrypted. It is important to mention here that when this new microprocessor is present then malware programme is detected easily and memory is protected from harmful cyber attacks.

It is known that the hackers take advantage of the ignorance among the developers of the applications, OS etc and exploit it to their benefit.

The good news now is tightening of the basic hardware to support both operating systems as well as applications have been carried out by the research students and they have successfully developed this small microprocessor chip based on this. According to professor Kamakoti, the software designer could now utilize this microchip and make the system even more secure.

Chester Rebeiro assistant professor, spoke about how this new microprocessor chip would be tremendous and computer, mobiles, tablets etc would no longer need any additional software to protect them from cyber attacks.
