Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) are in talks with some of the big firms to provide motor bikes and e-bikes for the metro rail commuters at Meenambakkam and Thirumangalam. The commercials are analyzed by the CMRL for the final approval before launching the motor bikes scheme.
According to the reports the CMRL will have to select a method of leaving the vehicle on the site in which it is taken. This will create certain amount of complexity in using this exclusive service and plans are devised to overcome this hurdle.
CMRL is also insisting Cab giants like OLA and Uber to introduce bike taxis in the city and the officials were in talk with the Chennai transportation department for implementing this service. Uber has bike taxis in some of the minor cities of India and so introducing it in the big metropolitan like Chennai may favor many commuters for their easy transportation in and around the metro rail centers.
A CMRL official reported an estimated number of 25,000 people using metro every day, as it will surely increase in coming years. The introduction of motorbike and e-bike service may encourage sharing ride options for the commuters enabling a decrease in pollution and traffic ease out in the city.
