Travelling by metro trains in Chennai city is a fantastic experience and many love that.
The latest news that has leaked now is soon in April we could see metro trains operated between Chennai Central and Nehru Park and this has been confirmed by the officials belonging to CMRL.
It is worthy to note that construction of Egmore station has reached final stages and Central Square is completed partially. Operating metro trains in the underground stretch is possible now.
Once when metro trains start operating from Chennai Central there would be huge rise in the people using this metro trains in Chennai city. It is now said that currently as many as 34,000 people using this metro in Chennai everyday and soon this would reach staggering one lakh when operations begin from Chennai Central.
According to a senior official of this Chennai metro, the frequency of metro trains from Central to airport would be 5 minutes during the peak hours. It is revealed that passengers from Egmore would get major respite as the trains from many parts of Tamil Nadu depart from this station. One important piece of information is as many as one lakh commuters use the Egmore suburban railway station to reach their places of destinations.
Mr. P. Chaitnaya who is a regular commuter from Egmore expressed his happiness and said travelling by metro would be hassle free inspite of being costly. He also spoke about how during the peak hours it is very difficult to travel in the suburban trains full of people.
It must be noted that Egmore metro station is located over 8000 square metres of land with as many as four entry/exit points. People who arrive from other states at this Egmore suburban station would feel happy because it is only walkable distance between suburban railway station and metro station and they could take a metro to their places of destination.
An official belonging to metro train spoke about how the work was almost complete and how finishing works on the escalators at the back gate plus few electric works remain.
A distance of 2.7 kms stretch between Nehru Park and Chennai Central would have three stations Nehru Park, Chennai Egmore and Chennai Central. Direct link between Central and Chennai airport would be possible by the extension of the above stretch.
A bus bay facilitating inter-modal transport would be started near the exit at the Poonamalle High Road and there are talks going on in this aspect.
