Update from Chennai Assembly

In the Chennai Corporation Council meeting that was chaired by Mayor Mr. Saidai Duraisamy, DMK functionary Mr. Bose and fellow party men staged a walk-out when their questions were not answered.

Later, after they were pacified and returned to the meeting, they questioned the research and study that had gone into the Arch that was built to commemorate Diamond Jubilee of the Assembly. It is reported that the Mayor’s rebuff was that the decision was made by the Government and their (the Council’s) duty was only to oblige. Hearing the DMK’s questioning, AIADMK functionaries, in return, questioned the need for the Kalaignar Arch in Saidapet.
Mr. Neelakantan, MLA, said that areas in Pulianthope that were set aside for cleaning and beautification by the previous AIADMK Government were ignored by the DMK regime that took over, resulting in the unemployment of over 3000 people. Due to the DMK’s bias to known people, he said, the area and its people have suffered. The Mayor has agreed to bring this to the Chief Minister’s notice.
The Corporation has implemented the following resolutions:
·  Dental clinics will be opened in 11 areas

· Blood banks will be set up in Mogappair West, Thazhankuppam, Maduravoil and Jalladiyanpet

· Primary health centres to come up in 10 centres – Thazhankuppam’s Bazaar Road, Puzhal’s Gandhi Main Road, Kannabiran Kovil Street in Madavaram, Korattur, West Mugappair, Nerkundram, Maduravoil, Maanthope, Perungudi and Jalladiyanpet.
