On Thursday, 17th of May 2018, chief minister of Tamil Nadu, Mr. Edappadi. K. Palaniswami announced that the regional campuses of Anna University in Tirunelveli, Madurai and Coimbatore would also have undergraduate courses from this year. Till now only postgraduate engineering courses were run by the regional campuses belonging to these places. It is now revealed that the university administration would set up four B. Tech or B.E programmes and each of these programmes would have as many as 60 students.

For the coming year in the state of TN additional 720 engineering seats has been created for the students. Higher Education Department source highlighted that EEE, ECE, mechanical engineering and computer science engineering courses would be started soon.

The source further hinted that in Tirunelveli there would be a Geo Tech course instead of one of the above mentioned four programmes. This above mentioned move of starting undergraduate engineering courses in places like Tirunelveli, Madurai and Coimbatore is to provide quality education at low cost for the students belonging to backward families.

It is well known that this popular Anna University offers 4 undergraduate as well as postgraduate in four of its city based campuses plus 13 university based colleges in TN.

One important piece of information is the infrastructure present on the existing campuses would be utilized as classrooms for the new courses. Building of physics and chemistry labs would take place soon and this was confirmed by the source belonging to Higher Education Department. More students would be accommodated in the campus as the management would expand the campus. This would be done when the students complete their first year. Hiring of the teachers for language and for other programmes etc would also be done.

In the next week the Anna University syndicate members would meet and in this meeting action plan for conductive learning environment on the 3 campuses in Tirunelveli, Madurai and Coimbatore would be discussed. It is now clear that for all the aspirants applying through the TNEA or Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions the newly created 720 seats would be available.
