The news that CMRL or Chennai Metropolitan Rail Limited would open one more entry point to connect the concourse level of the station with Moore Market and Chennai Central has been the topic of discussion for many now. It is now said that the commuters need not step out of the Central metro station to board suburban and outstation trains. To reach the entry point constructed in front of Moore Market Complex, the commuters could walk from one end to other end of the metro station at the ticketing level of the station.
According to a metro rail official, entrance to new pedestrian subway that links Central metro with the suburban would be opened along with the entry point. He then hinted that either on Tuesday or in Wednesday it would be opened.
It is important to mention that currently there is just one entry point to the massive 70000 sqm 3 deck underground metro rail hub at Central. This has been creating issues for the commuters having luggage as they are forced to step out of the station, walk down the pedestrian subway to reach Moore Market Complex or Central railway station located at the other side of the road.
Recently the electrical systems in the facility were inspected by the metro rail officials and a team of workers gave finishing touches to the walls and staircases of pedestrian subway.
To make it easy for the commuters from metro rail as well as from Park station to switch to other side of the Poonamallee High Road, a 8.9m wide pedestrian subway has been built by the CMRL next to the underground metro station.
At Central metro as many as 4 entry points have been planned to connect it with Park station, Park Town station, Moore Market Complex and Central railway station.
