For many years parents and students were finding it difficult with extra subjects like general knowledge, moral science etc as these subjects have increased the bag load of the children studying in CBSE schools. There are many CBSE schools in Chennai city and lots of students study in these schools. The students studying in CBSE schools in Chennai could feel little free now. The news is CBSE schools in Chennai have started dropping these above mentioned subjects and have increased the duration of physical education classes. This was according to a recent circular that re-iterated reducing the bag load for the students.

A circular was issued by CBSE recently and this circular stated that affiliated schools should follow regulations on reducing the bag load of the students plus the homework burden on the students. It was also mentioned that the schools must not ask the students to carry more books than the maximum number prescribed for each class.

It is worthy to mention that some CBSE schools have cut down the number of subjects. The schools have changed subjects such as computer science as fully practical modules and also increased the use of smart classes, audio-visual lessons. Replacing the note books with individual text sheets have been done by the CBSE schools.

Coimbatore based Angappa Senior Secondary School principal, Navamani spoke about how all the computer science classes have been converted to practical ones and theoretical tests have been reduced. A principal belonging to a famous CBSE school in Chennai city spoke about how the number of physical education classes have been increased and theoretical subjects have been replaced by yoga and gardening etc. The language classes have been doubled so that the students need not carry a heavy bag. This was confirmed by a Chennai CBSE school teacher. The students highlighted the fact that these changes have not been a huge benefit for them as they already carry many things to their schools.

It must not be forgotten that there was an order from the Madras High Court regarding scrapping homework and school bags up to class 2. It is now brought out that the above mentioned circular issued by CBSE has reminded the schools of the recent order by Madras High Court.

Teachers spoke about how the parents are not willing to comply with the regulation even if the schools are trying to comply. It is now revealed that parents urge that their kids are given homework so that they could begin engaging in their kids academics early on.
