CMRL reduces frequency of metro trains

Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) announced the reduction in frequency of trains owing to lower footfalls against the earlier expectation in terms of commuters. Direct trains on two of the sectors will have rescheduled train frequency for every 15 minutes approximately.

The peak hour interval (8.30 a.m.to 10.30 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 8.30 p.m.) and non-peak hours (6 a.m. to 8.30 a.m., 10.30 a.m. to 5 p.m. and 8.30 p.m. to 10 p.m.) will have direct trains from Chennai Central to Chennai Airport and Chennai Central to St Thomas Mount for every 14 minutes. If a passenger gets down before the full length stretch and plans for another journey then the frequency of the trains retains to seven minutes availability.

The non-peak hour schedule for AG-DMS to Chennai airport, the train will arrive for every 14 minutes. For peak hours the frequency will be five and nine minutes for alternate trains. The new timings are totally different from the current schedule where the trains will have the frequency of 20 minutes during the non-peak hours and five minutes for peak hours.

The sources of CMRL confirms the reason of lower passenger rate for the new timings of the trains. The latest plans of solar roof panel installation is also carried on in metro stations on an expectation of saving Rs 20 lakh a year.
