Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) are likely to build only two exit/entry points for the Metro Phase II stations. Commuters can use only two points for the entry and exit contrary to the Phase I metro stations that have four entry/exit points. CMRL sources said the Metro Phase II stations doesn’t have any kind of requirement for a four way entry and exit points for the commuters usage.

Though the Phase 1 stations have four points of entry/exit openings only two of them are operative at any given time. The number of passengers on daily basis of travel in the metro stations is not up to the mark as expected leaving no room for the option of four exit and entry points in Metro Phase II stations.

CMRL also confirmed the total reduction in the size of the Phase 2 stations owing to less land acquisition. For Phase I project 90,000 square meters of land was acquired for the construction and CMRL reduced substantially the land acquisition making it 40,000 square meters only for the Phase II stations.

The recent change in the timings and frequency of metro trains clearly describes the lower passenger population in the stations. The ticket cost is considered as the main reason for the commuters rejecting the option of metro travel said the sources from the public forums. Re-planning the entire ticketing cost categories can have a positive impact in the metro usages.
