Chennai Metro DMS-Washermanpet trail run next month

The trail-run of the section of the Chennai Metro Rail service between DMS and Washermanpet is scheduled next month.

Presently, Chennai Metro Rail covers a distance of 35 km. As important places such as Chennai Central and Egmore Railway Stations, Koyambedu Mofussil Bus Terminus and Airport are linked, the number of passengers tavelling Chennai Metro has been steadily increasing and has gone up to 50000 passengers daily.

In the next phase of the project, the activity of laying tracks, etc., between Anna Salai DMS and Washermanpet via Chennai Central Railway Station is nearing completion. A trailt of the track and system had been already conducted deploying a diesel rail engine and analysed.

When enquiring about this to the Metro officials, they shared that the stage is set to start metro services covering a distance of 9.5 km from the Anna Salai DMS to Washermanpet through the underground tunnel.

The railway stations in this section are DMS, Thousand Lights, LIC, Omandhurar Government Gardens, Chennai Central, High Court, Mannadi, ad Washermanpet. Presently, the activities of installation of electric and signal equipment are in progress.

The trail run in this section is scheduled to be conducted by the end of next month. The continuous trail run will be conducted for 45 days on this Metro section.

Subsequently, the Railway Safety Commissioner will personally visit and inspect the operations and then approve to commence the public services. It is planned to commence the public service in this Metro section before the end of December.
