Chennai metro rail has been making news often these days. The latest news that has come out now is the second phase of Chennai metro is under the consideration of the international funding agencies now. It must be taken into account that this second phase of Chennai metro would link northern parts of Chennai with the IT hub of south Chennai and by this many people working in IT companies would be benefited. The above information about the second phase of Chennai metro was confirmed by an official belonging to union government on Friday, 12th October.

Secretary of ministry of housing and urban affairs, Mr. Durga Shanker was cynosure of many eyes at the workshop in the capital city and he spoke about how the second phase of Chennai metro rail project was under the consideration of the centre. He later revealed that the second phase would take some time as it involved inter-ministerial consultations. A comprehensive mobility plan is a part of the evaluation of the Metro rail project. The secretary then added that the state government was asked about chalking out comprehensive mobility plan. He finally threw light on how the second phase of the Metro rail has been sent to JICA or Japan International Cooperation Agency and ADB or Asian Development Bank and how this second phase on metro rail is under the consideration of JICA and ADB. The second phase of Metro rail would cover a distance of 107.55 kms over three corridors and it was planned at an estimated amount of Rs 85,047 crores.
