There is no denying to the fact that we often require emergency public transport system. As far as the Chennai Metro is concerned, people fall under various categories. There is a substantial increase in footfall of passengers after introducing share auto and car services at the CMRL stations.
There is about 10,000 headcounts increased in the total number of Metro travelers. And there are 55,000 travelers in Metro every single day.
As per CMRL officials, this increase is observed only after introducing the Share services in select CMRL stations in August.
For share auto, the passengers need to pay Rs 10 and for share car, the pay is Rs 15 for which they can ply for about 3 km radius around the station. This transport system was earlier being used by just 45000 people, and in the recent weeks, there is increase in this count by 10,000.
These services shall soon be expanded to 26 other metro stations. Tender calls and discussion invites are already sent. This shall get implemented within another two to three months.
The very first Metro service was started 3 years ago along 8-km stretch covering Koyambedu and Alandur. This had about 8000 people taking the metro every single day. Passengers wish they had these share autos and cars right during the initial days.
