Soorasamharam arrangements on full swing at Tiruchendur

Soorasamharam is one of the key events in Murugan’s sea shore temple located at Tiruchendur, Tamil Nadu. It marks the date when Lord Murugan destroyed Surapadman, a human manifestation of evil. Lakhs of devotees will flood towards Tiruchendur Subramaniya Swamy temple for the event with the highlight of Kanda Sashti festival. District administration and temple authorities were already involved in extensive organization works dedicated solely for the festival of Soorasamharam.

Starting from November 8, 2018 people from different regions of Tamil Nadu and other countries urge to the Kanda Shasthi festival. Local holiday has been announced for Thoothukudi district for Tuesday in respect to the festival.

The temple’s sanctorum was opened at 3 am with special daily poojas performed for the presiding deity, Lord Murugan. Viswaroopa Deeparathanai along with Yagasala Pooja was planned on Tuesday that starts early in the morning. The annihilation of the evil force, Soorapadman by Lord Murugan with his vehicle and weapon will be enacted by 4.30 pm alongside the sea shore of Subramania Swamy temple. On Wednesday night the conduction of celestial wedding of Lord Murugan and Deivayanai will take place inside the temple premises.

Sashti fating (Viradham) is famous for the devotees going through strict diet and routines for their prayers to get answers. Tamil people all around the world do this kind of fasting in respect to Lord Murugan on the auspicious event and festival.

More than 3,200 policemen have been deployed in Tiruchendur Murugan temple for security. Surveillance towers have been set up along with large LED screens. Ten such locations are fixed with these facilities exhibiting the event with safety precautions.

A total of 250 special buses are operated by Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation to reach Tiruchendur from areas such as Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli, Nagercoil and Madurai. Parking facilities for more than 2500 light vehicles have been arranges at JJ Nagar near Veerapandianpattinam. A space for parking more 1000 vehicles have been allotted near the ITI premises.  Kumarapuram Esakkiyamman Temple on Tirunelveli-Tiruchendur Road has a big parking space for those reaching the temple through Tirunelveli route.

Drinking water, ambulance, fire and rescue services are implanted in many spots by the district management and temple authorities for the welfare of the devotees.
