Metro smart cards for share autos and cars around metro stations

The recent update from Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) confirms the issuing of smart cards for all share autos and share cars around metro stations. These smart cards incorporate cashless transaction system enabling smart travel and payment options for metro commuters. Now the driver of share auto or car issues a dedicated ticket to the passengers. After the issuing of the metro smart cards the system will come under one roof with all the train travel and last mile connectivity through share autos and share cars.

The officials of CMRL ensures the issue of smart cards and the process of providing smart card machines to share autos and share cars within few months. Anna Salai and North Chennai stretches will come into full operation by the end of January. With this the whole Phase 1 stretch of Chennai Metro will be completed. CMRL plans to facilitate share auto and car options in all metro phases of the city comprising 32 stations with full running conditions. Commuters need not buy separate tickets for share autos and share cars that paves way for cashless transaction for major transportation mode inside Chennai.

CMRL started share auto services three months back for selected stations such as Guindy, Thirumangalam, Alandur, Little Mount, Ekkatuthangal, Koyambedu, Ashok Nagar and St. Thomas Mount. Share car facility was incorporated in the stations of AG-DMS, Anna Nagar East, Koyambedu, Alandur and Vadapalani. The latest update confirms that all the 32 stations will be designed in such a way the commuters having the options of both share autos and share cars with smart card transaction.

Tenders have been passed by CMRL to finalize the party taking over the work of share auto and share car services dedicated for metro stations. Commuters can have a ride with nominal prices without any kind of overcharging issues.

Now at present the share auto price was reduced from Rs 10 to Rs 5 and share cars from Rs 15 to Rs 10. On a comparative note the charges for the ride is way too minimal to other mode of share vehicles operating in and around the city.
