Life is precious so we have to be careful. It is well known that the safety sign boards and speed breakers play important roles in our lives by preventing many accidents. The shocking piece of news is as per an official date it is now said that nearly 35 percent of interior roads leading to the highways do not adhere to the safety norms. There are as many as 2200 intersections and out of these around 800 intersections do not have signboards and speed breakers on approach roads to help vehicles to merge with the highways.

Road safety commissioner played his part and headed a state level lead agency in the month of July and the team found out that many fatal accidents took place because of speeding vehicles joining the highways through the approach roads. It was pointed out by the state level agency that transverse bar markings along with cautionary sign boards must be placed at all the intersections. This was mainly to reduce the fatal accidents.

It must be taken into account that the state highways and NHAI or National Highway Authority of India were asked to provide speed breakers on the approach roads at the distance of 15m from the highway boundary. This was according to the latest Indian Road Congress norms. Till the month of June in 2018, the remedial steps were yet to be completed in as many as 800 intersections located in places like Krishnagiri, Villupuram and Karur districts. On the highway stretches the fatal accidents continues to be on the high. It is highly shocking to mention that in the Krishnagiri district as many as 8 people get killed per every kilometre in the road accident. This Krishnagiri district has been leading the highway accidents since the year 2013. An official belonging to the department of highways stated that the work was underway and the remedial measures would be completed at the identified intersections. He later spoke about the widening of the narrow bridges and culverts that were responsible for many road accidents in the state of TN.

It must not be forgotten that in the month of January in 2018 a narrow bridge in Kovilpatti on NH 44 connecting Madurai and Tirunelveli grabbed many eyeballs as this bridge was responsible for killing 6 people and injuring 6 people. This incident has made the state road safety council to widen all the narrow bridges that cause many accidents.
