Commuters are finding it tough to travel from Kilambakkam to the Chennai city and soon this could change. It is now revealed that in a few years of time, the commuters arriving at the Kilambakkam bus terminus could get into a metro train to reach Chennai city without any trouble. It is known that presently buses bound to southern places in TN are operated from CMBT in Chennai and the Kilambakkam Moffusil Bus Terminus is meant for these buses going to southern places in TN. The point is CMRL or Chennai Metro Rail Limited has begun preliminary works to extend its network and has initiated a feasibility study. The important piece of information that was collected was CMRL had floated tenders to identify an agency to study the feasibility of extending the airport metro station in phase-1 up to Kilambakkam near Vandalur on the GST Road.  As per an official belonging to metro rail it is revealed that  when the line comes up it would fulfil the demands of suburban residents to extend metro rail services till Tambaram.

There are many parameters that play important roles in seeking the approval for the project and the feasibility study would analyse these parameters. Various parameters are identifying route from airport to Kilambakkam to build the line, alignment, number of metro stations and their locations, land requirement, method of construction and the number of commuters likely to use the metro services etc. It was brought out by the official of CMRL that once the feasibility report was submitted then DPR would be prepared for government approval and funding etc. Through a direct train between Central, Egmore, CMBT and the airport, metro rail links all the hubs in Chennai city. One important piece of information is ever since the airport line was opened the people living in the southern suburbs were demanding extension of airport line till Tambaram. The commuters arriving at the Kilambakkam bus terminus would be able to board a metro train to any of the transit hubs in the Chennai city once the metro rail gets extended up to Kilambakkam.

It was in the month of May in 2018, chief minister of TN, Mr. E. Palaniswamy, announced that metro rail services would be extended up to Kilambakkam. During the inauguration of metro services between Central Metro and Nehru Park and from AG-DMS to Little Mount, chief minister spoke about the study that would be conducted to extend the metro rail till the proposed bus terminus in Kilambakkam.
