How many of us know what ‘Rye’ is? Grown as a grain, cover crop and forage crop, rye is a grass belonging to wheat tribe or Triticeae. It is called as ‘kampu’ in Tamil and is related to barley and wheat. It is worthy to mention here that rye grain is used in bread, flour, animal fodder etc. Rye contains manganese, copper, phosphorus, plus dietary fibre, pantothenic acid, magnesium etc in it. It also has vitamins like E, K, vitamin B6 etc in it and hence intake of rye is essential for us.

Various health benefits we get when we consume rye are

Helps in weight loss:

The fibre content in rye plus low calories helps in weight loss in us. It is known that belly fat is the hardest fat to lose amongst all fats and intake of rye could help in losing belly fat effectively.

Gall stones are prevented:

Many people these days get gall stones in them and consumption of rye would do wonders for them. Fibre rich rye does tremendously in avoiding gall stones. Bile acids leads to gall stones in us and the elements present in rye could decrease the amount of bile acids.

Fights diabetes:

Lesser amounts of glucose are produced by rye that has got low glycemic index. Hence people having diabetes issue in them could consume rye. Balancing of blood sugar levels is possible by rye intake.

Good for heart health:

The fibre in rye plays a huge role in lowering the cholesterol levels in us.  Many heart diseases are avoided by consuming rye. Apart from cholesterol lowering, genes could also be controlled.

Many kids have asthma and find their lives very difficult. It is revealed that intake of rye could prevent or would lower the chances of getting childhood asthma.
