Arudhra Darshan in temples dedicated to Lord Siva in Tamil Nadu

As the sacred Arudhra Darshan falls on today (Sunday, 23rd December) a swarm of devotees has been conducting special prayers right from early morning in all temples dedicated to Lord Siva throughout Tamil Nadu.

Lord Siva is being worshipped in deities of different forms, shapes, and sizes. Out of this, the form known as Aadalvallan (dance exponent) in the form of Lord Nataraja has been worshipped as a tradition for tens of thousands of years. As per the Hindu religious Shastras, the Tamil Star, Thiruvathirai is considered a symbol of Lord Siva.

It has been an old tradition to perform special abhishekhams to Aaadavallan or Lord Nataraja on the full moon day falling in the Tamil calendar sacred month of Margazhi on the star of Thiruvathirai.

Accordingly, `Lord Thyagaraj Padha Darisanam was performed in the Lord Thyagaraja temple in Thiruvarur.

Maha Abhishekham was performed yesterday (Saturday. 22nd December). Subsequently, today (Sunday, 23rd December), the deity of Lord Thyagaraja was specially adorned in the early morning and then, Deeparadhanai was performed. A large crowd of devotees stood in long queues and performed special prayers.

In the Arudhra Darisanam performed at the Salem Lord Sugavaneswarar temple, the deity of Lord Nataraja was specially adorned and special poojas were performed. A large crowd of devotees participated on this special occasion and prayed Lord Nataraja.

Similarly, Arudra Darisanam was performed in a grand manner at the famous Lord Nellaiappar- Goddess Kanthimathi in Tirunelveli in the `Tamira Sabha in the temple complex in the very early morning at 4.30 AM.

While the deity was at the Tamira Sabha, Thirumanjanam was performed on the deity of Lord Nataraja at 1.00 AM. And Pasu (cow) Depparadhanai was performed at early morning at 3.30 AM.

Subsequently, Special Dance Deeparadhanai was performed while the Oodhuvar Murthygal sand the songs from Thiruvempavai. A large crowd of devotees participated and prayed Lord Nataraja.

In the famous Chidambaram temple of Lord Nataraja, Arudhra Darisana Mahabhishekham was performed in the Aayiramkaal Mandapam in the early morning.

Special Abhishekhams were performed on the deities of Lord Nataraja and His Consort Goddess Sivakamasundari with the holy items of vibhoothi(holy ash), milk, honey, curd, fruit juice, sandalwood, and fruits and special Deeparahanai was performed.

Lakhs of devotees participated on this holy and sacred occasion and prayed Lord Nataraja. Subsequently, the holy ash (vibhoothi)  and the sandalwood applied during the abhisekhams and the special Thiruvathirai Kali was distributed to the devotees as prasadams.
