After the recent free rides, footfall in Chennai Metro is lesser than expected

In the last few days people belonging to the Chennai city have been enjoying free ride in metro train. The latest news is the number of people using metro trains in Chennai has reduced. It is now revealed that on Thursday 75,000 people traveled by metro trains in Chennai city to reach their places of destination. This was according to the sources.

On Sunday, 10 February 2019, 10 km stretch from AG-DMS to Washermanpet was inaugurated and for the last 4 days free rides were offered to the people in the Chennai metro. It is revealed that about 7 lakhs people traveled using metro in the last 4 days by utilizing this free ride. The important point is before this 19 km stretch was opened and Chennai metro operated for 35 km, the average number of people who traveled using metro in a day was 55,000. As per the sources it is clear the number of people using metro has risen now and is 20,000 more than before. It is important to mention that more people were expected to travel using metro now as the entire 45 km of phase-1 stretch is operational.   

It was pointed out by the source that the number of people using metro train would go up in the coming weeks. The superb news is frequency of early morning and late night metro train services would be increased and by this the patronage would also be increased.

It is known that people find it difficult to get last mile connectivity and for this the contract has been made. It is now said that this contract to provide share car and auto services to all the 32 metro stations have been issued and in a few months of time the services to provide last mile connectivity would start.

Another source explained about how once the last mile connectivity starts in these stations then more people would start using the metro trains. Finally it is revealed that the footfall would touch one lakh. It is important to mention that after the completion of phase-1 project now, the maximum fare of Chennai metro has decreased from Rs 70 to Rs 60.
