Now Anna Nagar police district under CCTV cameras

On Tuesday, 20th February 2019, Chennai city police commissioner, Mr. A.K. Viswanathan caught the attention of many when he inaugurated as many as 10,164 CCTV cameras. These cameras were installed at an amount of Rs 96.37 crores. By this it is now revealed that every 50 metres of Anna Nagar police district including Villivakkam and Thirumangalam ranges is under the surveillance.

It is important to mention that the Anna Nagar range including Aminjikarai and Arumbakkam has got as many as 3734 CCTV cameras. 

Nolambur and J.J. Nagar of Thirumangalam range has 3925 CCTV cameras and Villivakkam range having Kolathur and Rajamangalam has got as many as 2505 CCTV cameras. There are also 4525 CCTV cameras under Koyambedu and CMBT police stations. It is now said that there are as many as 14,689 CCTV cameras in total.

Police commissioner, Mr. Viswanathan, later expressed his views about the installation of the CCTV cameras and spoke about how these cameras were the best public-private partnership models in India. He was happy that the third eye had helped heir department to solve many cases easily. 

These CCTV cameras have helped the police department to narrow down on the culprit without the necessity of questioning others unnecessarily. Mr. Viswanathan later explained about how in Anna Nagar district busting of a Delhi based gang have been solved with the help of these cameras installed there. 

The Police commissioner expressed his happiness about the crimes coming down and said the CCTV cameras played a huge role in that. In addition to this control of crowds had been possible by these CCTV cameras. CCTV cameras have provided evidence of the criminals plus helping the court to take civil action against them. Law and order has been maintained and there is an improvement in the traffic discipline.This was also confirmed by the police commissioner.
