An LPG pipeline connecting Chennai and Madurai via Trichy will be laid, much to the delight of consumers. LPG or liquefied petroleum gas or cooking gas is a much wanted resource and supply does not keep up to the demand.
The pipeline will be constructed by the IPPL (Indian Oil-Petronas Ltd.), a joint venture between Indian Oil and Malaysian company Petronas. The LPG Import – Export Terminal was inaugurated in Ennore on Tuesday. The terminal has a capacity of 600,000 tonnes per annum.
Chairman of IPPL M. Nene said, ‘Oil marketing companies are in the process of releasing 55 million new connections by 2015 in a bid to help government achieve domestic LPG penetration of 75 per cent in India. Currently, the combined consumer strength stands at 144 million.’
