In Chennai, there would be above normal rains in the next week

There were drizzle and light rains in the last few days in the Chennai city. Information is in the next week in Chennai there would be above normal rains and this has been predicted by the experts. It must be taken into account that the southwest monsoon is entering anther break monsoon phase leading to change in the wind pattern.

In some parts of the city of Chennai, there would be light rains in the next 48 hours of time. This was as per the forecast made by the weathermen. During the southwest monsoon, westerlies are strong and with the wind would blowing from southwest to northeast the westerlies get weakened during the break monsoon time. This results in bringing convective rains to coastal parts of TN and Chennai. This was according to weather blogger from Chennai, Mr. Pradeep John. He added that rains after 10th of August would be superb. Between 10th and 20th August, above normal rains would be expected in places like Kanchepuram, Tiruvallur and Chennai.

It is important to mention that the break period might start after the weather system over Bay sustains over the land as it crosses from Bay of Bengal to Arabian Sea. Later on 10th August, weather system is expected to frizzles out. In the period between June and September, Chennai city gets around 400 mm of rains, about 20% of its annual rainfall of 1400 mm.

It is known that Chennai city received 251.3 mm of rainfall since 1st of June 2019 and this was against the normal rainfall of 206.6 mm that it normally receives. Point is this rainfall received in June is surplus of 22 percent. On Wednesday, certain localities of north Chennai like MKB. Nagar, Egmore etc received drizzles and the skies were cloudy.

In south Chennai localities like Nanganallur etc too there was drizzle with cloudy skies. Traces of rains were recorded by the observatories at Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam. It is now said that the day temperature is being affected by the presence of cloudy weather. On Wednesday, the suburbs of Chennai were less warm than the core areas. Information collected is Nungambakkam recorded a maximum temperature of 34.2 degrees Celsius and Meenambakkam recorded 33.6 degree Celsius.
