If you feel that Chennai metro trains are not running full, then try to travel in the metro train during the peak hours to know the truth.
The news is metro trains in Chennai are running full of commuters in the peak hours of time. On a daily basis, 1.18 lakh to 1.21 lakh people travel by the metro trains and this is on an average. It is known that morning 9 am to 11 am is the peak hours time and in this metro train network has maximum number of passengers and the metro trains run full with an average of 22,204 passengers. In the evening peak time between 5pm to 8 pm, an average of 37,601 passengers use metro trains in Chennai.
The important point to be noted is between 11pm and 12 am the number of passengers using metro trains in Chennai goes down and it is revealed that just 103 passengers use the services.
It is superb to mention here that Thirumangalam is the busiest metro station in Chennai and an average of 10056 passengers travel every day. Next is Chennai Central with 9702 passengers and is followed by Chennai airport with 7358 passengers.
Metro trains in Chennai are mostly used by those who go to their place of work and there are few who use metro trains to leave Chennai by train or by flight. This has been confirmed by some officials belonging to CMRL. It must be taken into account that Thirumangalam metro station is widely used by many passengers as many come to this station from other places like Padi, Mogappair, Retteri, Ambattur etc to go to their work spots. Taking auto or cab to reach the work places would very costly.
From 9 am to 11 am, an average of 2784 people use Thirumangalam metro station and 2034 people use metro train service between 5pm and 8 pm. It is revealed that many people use Chennai Central station to get to Fort St George for their work. There are also others who use this station to catch outstation trains. Recently, a feeder service was launched to carry the people from the station to secretariat. From 9 am to 10 am, maximum of 1039 passengers use Chennai airport station now.
It is important to note that initially the station was used by people taking flights but once the feeder services were launched many from nearby places like Pallavaram, Chromept etc thronged the Chennai airport metro station.
