Mandala, Makara Villku Festival at Chennai Mahalingpaurm Lord Sri Ayyappa temple!

The ‘Mandala Makara vilakku thiruvizha’ is scheduled to be celebrated/performed at the Chennai Mahalingapuram Lord Sri Iyappan - Lord Sri Guruvayurappan temple from 17th November (Sunday) to 15th January (Wednesday).

On this occasion, special performance programmes arranged every day at 7.00 PM from 17th November including Bharathanatyam, Kuchipudi dance performance, Devotional songs, music programme by Thayambaka, Karnataka musicians, Bhajanai, and dance drama.

This year also, the programme series starts with the devotional music programme on 17th November by Karthik Raja and Bhavadharinini (Son and daughter of Maestro Ilayaraja). On 24th November (Sunday), the film playback singer Ambili will render devotional songs.

On 27th November (Wednesday, a concert will be performed by the popular Karnatic singer Unnikrishnan. On 1st December (Sunday), devotional music and songs will be performed by the temple staff of the Mahalingapuram Lord Sri Ayypan-Lord Sri Guruvayurappan temple. On 12th December, Gopika Varma will perform Mohini Attam.

On 13th December (Friday), a grand Karnatic music concert will be performed by the maestro K J Jesudas. And it is notable that this is the 48th year to be performed by the famous artist here.

On 27th December (Friday), Mandala Pooja will be performed from 6.30 AM to 8.30 AM. On 15th January (Wednesday), on Makara Vilakku (jothi), ‘Akanda Nei Abhsishekham’ will be performed on the deity of Lor Sri Ayyapan.

On 12th December (Thursday), the divine flag-hoisting ceremony for the Lord Sri Ayyappa annual celebrations headed by Sabarimalai Tantri Brahmasri Kandaru Mohanaru.

On 20th December (Friday), the festival celebrations conclude with special ‘sandal abhishekham’ on the deity of Lord Sri Ayyappan from 9.30 AM to 11.00 AM.

Further, it has been announced that the items required by Lord Ayyappa devotees such as Thulai mani maalai, dhoti (veshti), thundu, and Erumudi items will all be available at the temple itself.

The devotees with Eumundi visiting Sabraimalai need to register in advance.
