Before mid-2020, CMRL to launch 256 share cabs across all metro stations

The news that has come out now is before the middle of the year 2020 Chennai Metro Rail Limited or CMRL would launch 256 share cabs across the 32 metro stations in Chennai. Booking of these cabs could be done by means of the app. Currently, other cab services in Chennai are also booked using the app.
It is said that in the future finding a cab from any metro station in Chennai would be a tap away. Presently, share taxis and share autos are operated in 13 metro stations for the sake of providing last-mile connectivity to the commuters. Information got is this upcoming app-based cab service would replace the share autos and share cabs.
In collaboration with Mega Cabs, cab services would be launched and this was as per an official belonging to CMRL. Since the month of August, Mega Cabs has been operating 32 share cabs in as many as 8 metro stations in Chennai are known. It must be noted that the plan of CMRL is to have 8 cabs in each of the 32 metro stations and then increase the fleet as per the demand.
In another 6 months, there would be uniform feeder services at all the metro stations. Phasing of the shared taxi and share auto would be carried out soon.
Point to be noted here is presently Mega Cab is linked to a smartphone app developed by Ford Mobility. There would be 5 pick-up points for every station and the users could book a cab by selecting one of these 5 pick-up points. The app helps the commuters with the distance and arrival time of the nearest cab. Information is by booking a cab the commuters would be able to reserve a seat of their choice.
Payment could be done either before the trip or by swiping the metro smart card after the trip. The important piece of information is the cab services would operate on a set route of 6 to 8 km from every station with a flat rate of Rs 10. It is known that the metro commuters also have shared vehicle options for the last mile connectivity.
