Posted on: 25/Nov/2019 3:29:07 PM
During the solar eclipse scheduled to occur on 26th December, the corridors of the Sabarimalai Lord Ayyappan temple will remain closed for 4 hours.

As the solar eclipse is scheduled to last from 8.06 AM to 11.13 AM on 26th December, it has been decided to keep the temple corridors closed for 4 hours during this period. The temple corridors will be open by early morning 3.00 AM and ‘Ney Abhishekham’ (showering of ghee or rarified butter on the icon of Lord Sri Ayyappa) will be performed. This will be completed at 6.45 AM. Then the temple cleansing will be taken u.

‘Usha Pooja’ will be performed 7.15 AM. Temple corridors will close by 7.30 AM. Once the solar eclipse is over, the temple corridors will be opened by 11.30 AM and ‘ghee abhishekham’ will be performed. The corridors will close a bit later than usual at 1.00 PM on this date.

It is not announced whether the devotees will be allowed to climb the steps during the corridor-closed period. The Golden ‘Angi Sannidhanam’ for the Mandala Pooja is scheduled to arrive on this day.

So, once the temple corridors are closed by the afternoon, there will not be any Darshan for the devotees.

The temple corridors will open by 5.00 PM and then only the devotees will be allowed.

The duration of the `ghee abhishekham’ will reduce as per the Mandala Pooja conducted on 27th November.

So, the devotees are advised to make note of these details and plan their trip accordingly.
