CMRL Phase-2: soil testing in several places in progress!

Activities have been galvanized for going ahead with the Chennai Metro Rail (CMRL) -Phase-2 project.  The soil testing activity has been taken up earnestly at several places. So, 80% of the planned soil-testing has been completed. The CMRL officials confirmed that this is expected to be completed 100% by February 2020.

Subsequently, the linking activities of sections, Madhavaram-Sholinganallur and Madhavaram-Siruseri are to commence shortly.

The CMRL-Phase-2 Project covers a total distance of 118.9 km and the cost estimate is Rs. 85074 Crores. Soil-testing is right now in progress. Up to 52 km of work has been completed in the priority routes. The CMRL officials reconfirmed that these activities will get completed by February 2020.

CMRL officials shared regarding this:

‘The sections Madhavaram-Sholinganallur and Madhavaram-Siruseri are both top-priority sections. Presently, soil-testing is in progress from Koyambedu to Kaliamman Temple and from Arcot Road to Poonamallee via Porur. Apart from the soil testing is scheduled to be carried out in narrow routes where there is traffic congestion.

80% of the soil-testing activity for CMRL -Phase-2 has been completed so far. We expect 100% completion by February 2020.

Tenders will be floated for the construction work of the CMRL-Phase-2 project covering 118.9 km during the coming January.

Subsequently, the CMRL-Phase-2 construction work will commence from June next year!’
