Subsequently, the general secretary of All India Bank Employees’ Federation C H Venkatachalam shared in an interview session:

‘Indian economy is in a state of recession.  The banks need to perform with better skills to overcome this challenge. However, the central government has waived the loans taken by the major industry owners. This waive is a burden on the common public. We strongly protest this. Further, the central government must not privatise public sector banks. Also, the merger plans of banks must be given up. Job security must be given to the employees. Job opportunities must be created for the youth. The Rules and regulations fort eh employees must not be revised in a harming approach.

As a protest against the anti-employee stand taken by the central government, All India Bank Employees would go on strike on 8th January throughout the country.

Around 50000 employees from the state of Tamil Nadu will participate in this strike. Around 6 Lakhs bank employees will participate at All India level. Further, the central government labour unions such as INTUC, AITUC, and HMS are also participating in this strike.

As such, over 25 Crores of employees including the employees of reserve Bank, Cooperative Banks, Railway Recruitment Board employees, LIC (Life Insurance Corporation of India), General Insurance Corporation, Railways, Ports, National Highway employees, teachers, and government employees would be participating in this strike.

The Tamil Nadu State Government must act on the demands of the cooperative bank employees. Further, Tamil Nadu Chief Cooperative Bank Employees’ Association and the Tamil Nadu Chief Cooperative Bank Officers’ Association, have supported this strike.

Thus, there are prospects of the entire cooperative banks’ operation being totally stalled on 8th January 2020!
