17 Lakhs applications to include in the voter list: Voter ID cards to be issued by month-end!

17 Lakhs persons have applied for inclusion/correction in the voters’ list throughout the state of Tamil Nadu. The voter ID cards for the new applicants are scheduled to be distributed by this month-end.

The draft voters’ list for the state of Tamil Nadu was released on 23rd December. According to this, there are 6,00,01,329 voters in this state. There are 2,96,46,287 are men. 3,03,49,118 are women, 5,924 persons belonging to the 3rd gender.

Subsequently, the Election Commission announced that those who are completing 18 years of age as on 1st January 2020 and those whose names have not been included so far in the voters’ list and those who need to deletion or corrections in details can apply from 23rd December to 22nd January.

For the facility for the office-goers, special registration camps were conducted throughout Tamil Nadu during the weekends of 4 days on 4th, 5th, 11th, and 12th January.

The public responded wholehearted and participated eagerly in these camps to include their names or to make corre3ctions such as address change.

Over these 4 days’ camps alone, 12 Lakh individuals have applied for inclusion of names.

In a similar task, on the official working days, the persons can submit the application for inclusion of names in the offices of the Poll booth official or voter registration officer. Facilities to do this were made available online www.mvsp.in  and also the App for voters’ assistance.

As per the announcement of the Election Commission, the deadline for this activity concluded yesterday (22nd January, Wednesday). During last month alone, 13,16,924 candidates have applied for inclusion of names in the voters’ list.

For deletion/correction, or change of address, 4 lakhs persons have applied.

The Chief Election Officer for Tamil Nadu Satyaprada Sahu shared in this regard:

‘Over the last month alone, 13,16,921 individuals have applied for inclusion of names. 1,02,210 individuals have applied for deletion. 1,73,926 individuals have applied for correction for change of address. 57 Indians living abroad also have applied for a total of 17,01,662 individuals.

The election commission officials visit the residences of the above 17 Lakhs individuals and conduct enquiries. During the visit, they will confirm the residential address given is correct.

If it is established during these house visits that the details furnished in the application are right, these names would be included in the voters’ list subsequently.y.

Subsequently, the new Voter IDs with photographs will be distributed to the new applicants from the National Voters’ Day falling on 25th January.

From the end of this month (January) till the end of February, the new Voter IDs with photographs will be issued. Subsequently, the final voters’ list will be released on 14th February.
