Technology to vote from anywhere emerging shortly!

Posted on: 14/Feb/2020 3:24:29 PM
Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora informed that in a joint endeavour with IIT, Chennai, a facility to enable vote from wherever they are (in case they elsewhere from there resident place and still interested in voting) is being developed.

There are around 90 Crore people throughout the country possess Voter ID cards. During the last Parliamentary elections in 2019, 30 crores voters did not vote!

The observation for this status cites the main reason is - as a majority of the voters shift to other places on account of education / job / other reasons, they are constrained to be not in a position to vote at their given resident locations in their native places.

As such, the Election Commission has now been constrained to take all corrective initiatives/actions to overcome this major issue!

Chief Election Commissioner Sunil Arora shared regarding this:
‘In a joint endeavour with Chennai IIT, we are developing a technology which will facilitate the voter who has registered the name in the native place to cast his vote wherever he/she is! All-out efforts are being undertaken to implement this technology before my service period ends!

The recommendation to link Voter ID with Aadhar card is awaiting central government’s approval. Further, the reforms in the election system would be reviewed in detail in the scheduled meeting with the Ministry of Law on 18th February.’
