After the lock down gets lifted in Chennai, CMRL or Chennai Metro Rail Limited would start metro train operations in Chennai city after it gets green light from the state government.

At the metro stations in Chennai, there would be warning stickers and markings on the floors plus on the seats of the trains. Commuters would have to get used to the smart cards instead of tokens. There would also be contact less ticketing using bar codes.

The front doors of the metro stations would have instructions like not to touch staircase railings, importance of maintaining social distancing etc. It is known that the metro stations have been closed down in the lock down to contain the spreading of Corona virus infection.

It is important to note that restarting the metro train operations would not be a huge issue for CMRL because precautionary steps like use of hand sanitizers and awareness messages for the commuters have been implemented even before the lock down.

Minor tweaking of schedule would ensure that too many people do not travel in the metro trains in the peak hours of time. This is because the trains are not crowded.

Operating critical systems such as communicating, signals and trains has been going on in the lock down period with 25 percent staffs and CMRL has been keeping the stations opened. For the sake of preventing systems and components from getting jammed, trains are being operated twice a day now.

The main idea behind operating metro trains empty in the lock down period was to make sure that the trains get ready for regular operations at short notice. This was according to some metro train officials. He added that the floors at concourse and platform level have stickers to direct the passengers to stand in queue while maintaining physical distance.
