In line with the home ministry’s guidelines, the TN state government has fully lifted the restrictions regarding the operations of the metro trains in Chennai city.
It is now revealed that the Chennai Metro Rail Limited or CMRL would resume the metro train services again from 7th of September. Important information is there would be strict enforcement of maintaining social distancing and wearing face masks.
Following the nationwide lockdown carried out to prevent the spread of Covid-19 infection, the metro rail services were suspended in March is well known.
Fact is metro train services are fully air-conditioned with less ventilation. These factors would help the Coronavirus to spread faster. It is for this reason the metro trains services were suspended after the services of bus, trains and flights were allowed to operate in a phased manner.
The SOP or standard operating procedure has been used by the state government and the metro trains would be operated according to these SOP. This was according to a senior officer belonging to CMRL.
He hinted about various restrictions on the services including the frequencies and the number of passengers travelling at a time. In a seven seated, just 3 passengers would be allowed to sit and one passenger in other seats.
Just 4 persons would be allowed to use the escalator at once. The crowd control staff would be guiding the passengers to the trains. This was highlighted by a source.
It is important to mention that the passengers would be screened by thermal guns and they would be provided hand sanitizers. Wearing facemasks would be compulsory and only those with facemasks would be allowed to enter the metro station.
Maintenance of the metro trains as well as the facilities at the metro stations was carried out in the lockdown period by the staff of CMRL.
