To assess step by step the process of how the passengers would be handled for the sake of social distancing inside trains and inside the stations, CMRL would begin trials from 3rd September.
It is now known that CMRL would be operating metro trains from 7th September and it is now said that there would be metro trains in Chennai for every 15 minutes.
The metro train services would start at 8am in the morning and the services would continue till 8 pm in the evening. For the sake of discussing SOP ahead of services resumption, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs had a meeting with the officials belonging to CMRL.
It was mentioned by some sources that from Thursday, 3rd September trials, to assess the step by step process of how the passengers would be handled in order to ensure physical distancing within stations and metro trains, would begin. The proper functioning of the signalling, tracks, trains and electrical systems would be revealed by these trials.
Every other day, the metro stations in Chennai are being disinfected. To regulate the flow of passengers, the entry points would be guarded and overcrowding would be avoided. Truth is CCTV cameras would be monitoring the movement of the passengers plus physical distancing etc.
It is worthy to mention that the metro trains would operate with just 50% capacity for the purpose of maintaining social distance inside the trains. The officials of the CMRL would make sure about the physical distance. At important locations inside the metro stations, there would be hand sanitizers available for the passengers.
According to an official belonging to CMRL, safety of the passenger is very important. He added that various arrangements have been made to make sure the passengers feel safe from the time they enter the metro station till they exit.
He concluded that depending on the patronage the frequencies of the metro trains and the timings of the trains would be increased gradually. The metro trains would stop at the stations for a longer time so that the passengers would have enough time to board the trains and ensure that there is no overcrowding.
