How would you feel if you are told that you could travel by metro, MTC buses and suburban trains in Chennai by using just a single card? Excited and surprised isn’t it!!

This would become a reality in another 6 months as CMRL or Chennai Metro Rail Limited would be introducing a national common mobility card or NCMC. Truth is agency has floated tenders to look for a partner bank for digital fare collection and for card issuing.

The card issued by Chennai Metro could be used in other modes of transport like MTC buses and suburban trains in Chennai.

By this NCMC seamless travel would be possible across all the transport systems. This idea was conceived by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs is a known fact. The superb piece of information is that by using this card it would be possible for the commuters to purchase from the shops at the metro stations, bus stands and at the railway stations.

Currently, smart cards are being used by the commuters for the rides in the metro trains plus for parking their vehicles at the metro stations in Chennai.

It is now mentioned by an official belonging to CMRL that the national mobility card would be an addition to the already existing smartcard. He added that the banks would be issuing these cards and the commuters could use them in the metro stations.

There are counters at the metro stations and these could also issue this card for the passengers. It is now believed that the time is right for the launching of this new card by the CMRL as the passengers would be looking at the contactless ticket options for sake of protecting them from Coronavirus infection. At the stations or by online process, the commuters would be able to top up these new cards.
