After a gap of 168 days (Break due to the preventive measure of lockdown imposition against the raging coronavirus pandemic), the Metro Rail Services in the Chennai Metro City resumed today - Monday, 7th September.
The lockdown conditions were imposed from 25th March when the Metro Rail Services were stopped temporarily.
In this situation, in the subsequent phases of extension of the lockdown imposition, relaxations are being announced as well facilitating the retune to a normal routine in a gradual manner.
As such, in the latest phase of ‘Unlock-4’ (different phases of relaxations), it has been announced that the Metro Rail Services in the Chennai Metro City from Monday, 7th September.
As such, the Metro Rail Services resumed from today (7th September). The State Industries Minister of the Tami Nadu Government, M. C, Sampath inspected the arrangements for the resumption of the Chennai Metro Rail Services and inaugurated the 1st service after the resumption.
It has been announced that the Metro trains will be operated from 7.00 AM to 8.00 PM. As a safety measure for the pubic, germs disinfectants will be sprayed in all the Metro trains and the railway stations regularly.
In order to facilitate the circulation of better quality air and also to facilitate the pubic to observe social distancing and thus alow time for all passengers to enter/exit the trains, the stopping time of the Metro Trains at each railway station has bee increased from the usual 20 seconds to 50 seconds.
The Metro Rail authorities informed that it was usual in the 1st Phase of the Chennai Metro Rail Project 1st Phase to operate 42 trains. Presently, as the services are being resumed after a break of 5 months, the number of trains operated would be gradually increased based on demand.
