If you are living near Thiruvottiyur Theradi then this piece of news would make you sad!!
It is said that when the Chennai metro rail phase-1 extension project from Washermanpet to Wimco Nagar commences then the commuters living near Thiruvottiyur Theradi might not be able to use this metro station. Truth is this station would not be ready for use as the inauguration would be delayed till early 2021. This was according to some sources.
It must be taken into account that this project was meant to cover 9km of north Chennai with stops at 9 stations like Washermanpet, Theagaraya College, Tondiarpet, New Washermenpet, Tollgate, Kaladipet, Thiruvottiyur Theradi,Thiruvottiyur and Wimco Nagar.
Point is Theagaraya College and Tondiarpet are built as underground stations and the rest are elevated ones. When compared to the construction of the elevated ones, the underground ones take more time.
The sources have mentioned that Tondiarpet and Theagaraya College metro stations would be ready for the inauguration but Thiruvottriyur Theradi metro station (elevated one) is likely to remain unfinished.
It is now revealed that the Thiruvottiyur Theradi metro station would be opened only a few weeks after the inauguration if the contractor doesn’t speed up the works. The viaduct not being connected to the metro station has been cited as a reason.
The speed of the construction was affected by the delay in the land acquisition. This was as per the officials. It must be noted that a long time was taken for getting the land that was needed for constructing the metro station.
