After a period of 6 months of lockdown, CMRL began operating metro trains in Chennai from September. Point is that in October there was 100% increase in the patronage of the commuters.
From 7th September to 31st October, as many as 1063413 passengers had travelled through metro trains in Chennai. It must be noted that out of this 7.10 lakhs travelled in October month and 3.60 lakhs in September month. In Chennai, metro trains were used by 30,515 passengers on 29th of October.
It was pointed out by an official release from CMRL that the metro train services resumed in a grand manner from 7th September 2020 in the blue line between airport and Washemanpet and in the green line between St Thomas Mount and Central via Koyambedu from 9th September 2020.
It is important to mention that in October QR code based ticketing system was used by 19607 passengers and travel cards was used by as many as 434,289 passengers. Information collected is that from 11th September onwards CMRL has been offering 20percent discount on QR code ticketing namely single journey QR ticket, return journey QR ticket, group QR ticket and QR trip pass. Those passengers who use travel cards get a 10percent discount.
