Chennai to receive sudden downpour with lightning and thunder in the next 2 days

These days, Chennai and rains have become non-separable isn’t it!!

In Chennai, yesterday, rains made their presence felt and the rains cooled the city. Localities like Aminjikarai, Choolaimedu, Nungambakkam and Ashok Nagar received light rains. Truth is that by 9pm in the evening, Nungambakkam received 14.9mm rains and Meenambakkam received 15.6mm rains.

For the next 48 hours of time, Chennai city would have overcast skies, and there would be intermittent light rains and sudden downpour with lightning and thunder. The trough or an elongated area of low pressure over Bay of Bengal would be the main cause for the rains in Chennai.

According to some private weather forecasters and some bloggers, the rains could be there for a week of time. Warning regarding heavy rainfall has been issued by the IMD in some places in Chennai plus in Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram, Chengalpet, Cuddalore, Villupuram, Pudukottai, Thanjavur, Thiruvarur and Nagapattinam etc.

The presence of troughs of low at mean sea level overrunning from south-west Bay of Bengal off Sri Lanka coast till west-central Bay of Bengal off north Andhra Pradesh and extending upto 1.5km above the mean sea level would be responsible for the rains on Thursday. This has been brought out by IMD.

It was pointed out by some weathermen that ten troughs of low would bring moisten-laden easterlies from the sea towards the land converging with opposite winds nearer the coast leading to convective rainfall.

Point is that the Pulse from Cyclone Goni that made landfall in the Philippines moved into the bay after developing into an easterly wave. It would be in the form of an inverted trough on Thursday nearer the TN coast with an upper air circulation near Sri Lanka. This was as per the weather blogger Mr. Pradeep john.

Till 13th November, the rains would be limited to coastal and south TN. Truth is that the winds have been converging perfectly over Chennai and its surrounding regions on 12th and 13th November. This would bring heavy rains. This was also mentioned by the Chennai blogger. It has been revealed by Skymet Weather that the rains expected along with lightning, thunder and strong winds etc would be there till 16th November.
