Soon, minor issues regarding the operations of the metro trains in Chennai would be solved easily. The technicians need not visit the site for sorting out the issues.
It must be recalled that recently a metro train in Chennai stopped midway and this forced the passengers to walk through the tunnel to reach the metro station. The train would have reached the station if the technicians and engineers had sorted out the issue remotely.
New asset management system software:
It is now said that CMRL has deployed the new asset management system software and its operationalisation in 2 months would make remote control possible from the Operational Control Centre. By this technology, minor issues would be fixed by the technicians or engineers in a few minutes without the need of visiting the site.
For several months, this software was on trial in all the metro trains in Chennai running in phase-1 of the project. This was according to the officials of CMRL.
It must be taken into note that in the first phase, the prototype was developed and it was subjected to testing many times. Later, the final version was arrived at after many trials.
It has been pointed out by an official belonging to CMRL that if the metro train stopped midway in a tunnel or viaduct with passengers inside the train, then the issue would be sorted out from the control centre itself. He hinted that in most cases the issue would be a minor one only.
How the new technology works:
Point is that the system would display the train data and send alerts on a real time basis. In the next step, the alert is transmitted to the depot’s maintenance server and finally the trained personnel would access it. It was later highlighted by another official of CMRL that for several months as a part of a trial run the metro trains were monitored throughout the day. This was to check whether the system and train functioned without any issues.
Information collected is that the new technology would cover metro trains that would run from Washermenpet to Wimco Nagar stretch in another 2 months.
