On Friday, the commissioner of metro rail safety caught the attention of many when he inspected the underground stretch of phase one metro rail extension from Washermenpet to Tondiarpet.
Official release from CMRL stated that Mr Abhai Kumar Rai, CMRS Bengaluru Circle along with 3 deputy CMRS inspected Thyagaraya College Metro and Tondiarpet Metro along with Washermenpet station. Various inspections that were done were civil operations and system readiness namely overhead equipment or OHE height and stagger measurement, demonstration of fire hydrant at ramp area, demonstration of TVS jet fans, ramp sump inspection and overview, measurement of schedule of dimensions, gauge, level and clearance measurements at every 200m intervals.
Three were also some inspections that were carried out on passenger emergency telephone, public announcement and passenger announcement displays, lift and escalators, HV rooms and other rooms etc. It is now revealed that the inspection would pave way for the Chennai Metro Rail System plan to complete the entire phase-1 extension works from Washermenpet to Tiruvottriyur of 9.051km with 7 metro stations. By this, northern parts of Chennai would be connected to the central business district area. This was highlighted in the statement from CMRL. Prime minister of India, Mr. Narendra Modi would be inaugurating the extension line on 1th February.
