Next week, PM of India Mr. Narendra Modi would be busy inaugurating the 9km metro line from Wimco Nagar to old Washermenpet in Chennai. Information gathered is that about 2lakhs commuters would be using this 9km line in a month.
The footfall would be more in the coming months and this was just an estimate. This was as per some officials belonging to CMRL. Ever since the lock down relaxations from September, the metro trains have been witnessing many commuters is known. It must be recalled that in September around 3lakhs travelled in the metro trains in Chennai and it has increased to 13.43 lakhs in January 2021.
It must be noted that from Tiruvottiyur many use shared autos as their mode of transport to reach Parrys or Beach station. Soon, these persons would be using metro trains and by that they would be able to reach the above said destinations faster and in a comfortable manner.
As per some sources, to reach places like Chromepet and airport in south Chennai from north Chennai normally it would take one and half to 2 hours of time. Superb piece of information is that travelling by metro trains would reduce the time by 50percent.
