Sacred Maha Sivarathri! Today! Devotees throng Lord Shiva Temples in Mylapore praying till early morning!

Chennai Metro City’s popular urban location is a well-known religious spot with the old saying ‘Maiyilaiye Kayiliai – Kalaiye Mayilai’ meaning Mylapore is the Abode of Lor Divs known as Kailasa or Kailayam – and Kailasa is the same as Mylapore or Mayilai! The main reason for this extent of devotional fervour is that there are several temples dedicated to Lord Siva in this sacred locality of Mylapore!
Today, (Thursday, 11th March) being the Sacred “Mahasivarathri8’ day, special prayers/poojas are being organised in the 7 hugely popular temples dedicated to Lord Siva! They are the temples of Lord Kapaleeswarar, Lord Malleeswarar, Lord Virupaaksheeswarar, Lord Kaaraneeswarar, Lord Vaaleeswarar, Lord Velleeswarar, and Theerthapada;eeswarar.
Multitudes of devotees of Lord Siva participated in the above special prayers and poojas till the early morning and the dawn of the day!
Apart from one of the urban localities of Myalpore and its temples, other temples in the Chennai Metro City in different locations such as Thiruvotriyur Lord Thyagaraja Swami Temple, Koyambedu Lord Kurungaaleeswara temple, Thiruvanmiyur Lord Marundeeswarar Temple, Pozhichalur Lord Agatheeswara Temple, Anagaputhur Lord Agastheeswarar Temple, Padi Lord Validhayanaadhar Temple, Padiyanallur Lord Thiruneetreeswar Temple, Puxhal Lord Thirumoola Nathar Swamy Temple, Kolathur Lord Somanathaswamy Temple, and Lord Agastheeswarar Temple, Special Prayers/poojas are scheduled to be performed at 4.00 AM early morning today (Thursday, 11th March).
In the other popular temples dedicated to Lord Siva in the Chennai Metro City, The sacred occasion of Mahasivarathri is being celebrated in a grand manner at the Mannady Lord Lord Mallikeswarar Temple, Lord Kachaleeswarar Temple, Parry’s Corner Lord Ekambareswarar Temple, Chennai Lord Malleeswarar Temple, MKB Nagar Lord Eeswaran Temple, Kandhakottai Lord Muruga Temple, Velcherry Lord Dhandeeswarar Temple, Thirisoolam Lord Thirusooli Nathar Temple, Amaindhakarai Lord Ekambareswar Temple, Ayanavaram Lord Parasuramalingeswarar Temple, Villivakkam Lord Agastheeswarar Temple, Kundrathur Lord Nageswaraswamy Temple,
‘Nangu Kaala Abhishekham’ (Prayers performed during 4 specific timings) are scheduled to be performed in all temples dedicated to Lord Siva.
Apart from the special prayers/poojas, other notable events such as Religious Discourses, Thiruvilakku Poojai, BharataNatyam performances by school students (boys & girls), ‘Pattimandram’ (debate), and chanting of Devaram & Thirumarai are also to be performed!
