In another 3 months of time, the CMRL would begin the phase-2 construction work in Chennai. It is clear that CMRL would be taking up the construction work in many places simultaneously.
Point that CMRL wants to start operations between Poonamallee and Power House that is an elevated 12km stretch and then from Madhavaram to CMBT and Madhavaram to Sholinganallur which would have a combination of both elevated as well as underground sections of 52kms.
In 2020, the tenders have been floated for the construction of these stretches and the contractors have been finalised. It was later pointed out by an officer that the Letter of Acceptance (a formal contract document about issuing the contact to a particular firm) would be given after 15th May 2021 when the Election Code of Conduct gets completed. Later after a month, a team would be mobilised and the site office would be established at the respective work site.
The contractors would have to redo a survey for finding out where cables and pipelines run underneath and this would be carried out after getting the letter of acceptance. By the end of the year 2024 or by early 2025, CMRL would begin operations between Poonamallee and Power House.
