The second Coronavirus infection wave has been dwindling in Chennai. It is now brought out that in the month of July many travelled by metro trains in the city. Point is that when compared to the month of June, the footfall in July was 67% higher.
In July, 18.46 lakhs passengers travelled in the metro trains and this was according to the official release from CMRL. The daily average was 59563 and on 26th of July as many as 74380 passengers travelled. The metro train services resumed operations on 21stJune after the lockdown was eased in Chennai. From 21st to 30th June, 3.55 lakh passengers travelled by metro trains.
Under TN government’s instructions, CMRL has been operating metro trains at 50% passenger capacity. Point is that all the passengers get screened for temperatures at the entrance by thermal scanners and just asymptomatic passengers are allowed inside the metro stations. The passengers must follow safety norms inside the metro stations and inside the trains. Information is that a penalty amount of Rs 200 is collected from those who don’t wear face masks.
The CMRL release had mentioned that since 21st June till now 102 passengers have been fined for non-adherence. Total amount of Rs 20400 has been collected as penalty.
