As one of the preventive measures of reducing the spread of the coronavirus, a decision has been taken by the Chennai Metro Rail administration to issue tickets instead of tokens for travel.
In Chennai Metro City, over 50000 citizens are availing the Chennai Metro Rail daily for their travel! On festive holidays and weekends, the number of passengers exceeds 1 Lakh!
In this situation, a decision has been taken to change the present token system which is being recycled; issue of ‘QRCode’ printed tickets will be introduced by the Chennai Metro Rail Administration.
This ticket will be used for entering and exiting the station.
This will ensure that the tickets used by one person will not be used by any other!
The passengers can procure this ticket in the counters or through vending machines.
In the 1st Phase of this implementation, the officials have decided to implement this in all the Chennai Metro Stations.
A senior Chennai Metro Officials shared that the activity of setting up the ticket-vending machines, etc., will commence soon.
