The reduction in the number of Covid-19 cases in Chennai has led to the lifting of the travel restrictions. The schools and offices have started to function normally now and many have started using metro trains. These have contributed to an increase in the daily patronage in the metro trains in Chennai. Information is that a total of 4467756 passengers have travelled in metro trains in Chennai in the month of March. It is noteworthy that in February a total of 31.86lakhs passengers travelled by metro trains and 25.19lakhs passengers in January.
There has been an increase of 27percent in the metro train patronage in March when compared to February month. Superb piece of information is that more than 2 lakh passengers used metro trains to reach their destinations on 28th March.
It was later mentioned by some sources from CMRL that the opening of 2 new metro stations in Tiruvottiyur namely Theradi and Wimco Nagar stations would increase the patronage in the metro trains. It must be noted that measures have been taken to improve the last mile connectivity and this would make many use metro trains. It is learnt that a total of 312845 passengers had used the QR code ticketing service.
